What is foil embossing?

The foil blocking process involves applying metallic foil to the material while a heated metal block stamps the design onto the print surface.

Artwork is required on one colour (generally black), wherever the black is the metalic foil will be imprinted.

Initial set up fee is required, but the stamp can be reused for future reorders.

I have been requested for a vector logo to be supplied for foil embossing?

For foil embossing, which requires precision, vector logos are the preferred format. If a graphics agency has handled your branding, they would typically provide you with a vector logo file. Common vector file types include EPS, AI, SVG, DWG, DXF, and PDF - though PDF can sometimes contain raster (pixel-based) imagery in addition to vector elements.

If you do not have access to a vector logo file, please provide the highest-resolution version of your logo that you can.

I only have a logo for foil embossing, but want other details printed?

Please provide your logo, along with the details you would like included, such as your tagline, address, phone number, email, and website. Our art team will select a font that closely matches your branding and is suitable for foil embossing.

What is an endpaper?

Endpapers are the folded sheets of paper at the start and end of a book, with one side glued to the cover. These first and last three pages - the front and back endpapers - offer an important opportunity to make a strong initial impression.

Endpapers can be valuable real estate for company branding, allowing you to showcase your design and creativity from the moment someone opens the book.

What is the difference between pages and leaves?

A leaf of paper typically consists of two printed pages. The term "leaf" refers to a single sheet of paper, while a "page" typically denotes one side of that sheet.

Artwork & Printing

Whats the difference between RGB and CMYK?

RGB, which stands for red, green, and blue, represents the primary colors of light used in displays and screens. In contrast, CMYK denotes the primary pigment colors of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, which are used in printing and physical media.

When submitting artwork you should ensure your files are in CMYK. If files are submitted in RGB, colours can be printed very differently then expected.

What resolution should printed artwork be?

DPI stands for Dot Per Inch. 300 DPI is the standard for printed material. Anything below 250 DPI will become pixelated or blurry.

Whats the difference between pixels and vectors?

The key difference between pixel-based and vector-based graphics lies in their underlying structure. Pixel-based graphics, such as digital photographs, are composed of tiny colored squares called pixels. When these pixels are arranged in high density, they create the illusion of a continuous image.

Vector graphics are defined by mathematical equations that describe the shapes and edges of the graphic elements. This allows vector-based graphics, like fonts and logos, to be easily scaled up or down without losing quality.

The best way to tell if an image is a pixel or vector is to zoom in as far as possible. A pixel based image will lose clarity whereas a vector based image will not.

How do i supply artwork?

We recommend supplying artwork in pdf format. Although also accept any adobe suite files as long as they are packaged correctly with fonts and images.

Most files can be emailed and for larger files wetransfer and dropbox is acceptable.

Can I submit Microsoft Office files?

While Microsoft Office files (such as Word documents) are accepted, please note that the formatting may not appear exactly the same due to differences in fonts, images, and other elements across various Office versions. To ensure consistent presentation, it is recommended that you save your files in PDF format (using File > Save as PDF) and submit both the PDF and original Office files, along with any supporting imagery.
